padding in C5

So when I create an editable area on a page, C5 seems to add extra padding around the area. Even though I have padding:0; (and margin:0; for good measure) in the CSS, it still insists on padding the editable area. Is this a bug or an "undocumented" feature or am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to come to terms with what you are describing...

Are you inserting an editable area such as a content block to a page or are you referring to hard coding an "area" into a page type php file?

If you mean while in 'edit mode', there is extra padding, it is normal.
