Page List Blog Template

This (I hope) should be rather easy for someone to figure out. I'm probably missing something really simple.
I am using the pre-installed blog pages in C5 for a site and on the "main" blog page the background css seems to break when the blog template is applied to the page list block. If I remove the template, everything comes back to normal.
Any thoughts?
