page type permissions

i want to give a particular page type different permission from the other pages on the site so whenever you create a page with composer using that page type it uses those permissions. i tried this through pagetypes/default then edit permissions, but can't get it to work.
you need to turn on advanced permissions @ index.php/dashboard/system/permissions/advanced
they are on? for some reason when i change the permissions in the pagetype default page it won't use those when i add a new page.
if this is for 5.7 I believe there is some kind of bug at the moment with this functionality. But. I'm unable to find the thread it was mentioned in. It was recent and Andrew Embler commented but I can't find it.
5.632, i can't get the new page to use the pagetype defaults. it keeps using the upper pages settings even tho i have the upper page set to sublevel page use page default?
fixed. the test page didn't have the use subpage default updated. it's working now.
