pagelist pagination should know which page it shows

Hi,
I have a news pagetype with a pagelist on it. I turned on pagination, and i can step through several pages of newitems. When i click on a link on for example page 3 i go to a new page. But the pagelist on this page doesn't know it is on page 3! It shows page 1 again. This behavior makes pagination rather useless.
I'd like to create a pagelist which knows on which page it is, sorting considerd. Anyone a hint?
