Permission in 5.5.1 not working for user or groups

Hi!
Just installed a fresh version of 5.5.1 and added a simple user.
Then I created a group and put the user in the group. Now I set some task permissions to the group and logged in as that user. But I don't even get the top-bar visible when I'm logged in.
I'v tried to set permissions on the user itself with the same result. I deleted the group and went with the user alone but no change.
Is this a bug or am I just plain stupid? =)
