Pretty URLs (nervous)

Hi, I have my very first concrete site preparing for approval from client to remove "under construction".
I never turned on pretty urls, so all internal links are using the index.php/...
Is it too late to turn them on? I have read a number of negative results, so I am wondering if I should leave it off in fear of breaking.

Any advice and liability :) is appreciated.
Thanks

it can depend on your webhost. I use Bluehost with 5.6.1.2 and don't have any problem turning them on and off. Changing all your hard coded links can be a task though, for sure :D

Super my little Blue brother!
What are you calling hard coded links?
Do all internal links like "back to top", anchors, links to pdf files/images from file manager have to be manually changed?
Or are you referring to writing links into php and css files?

...and thanks for the thumbs up

by that I meant, like in my case, I have some html links and such scattered around in certain places, and if you turn on pretty url's you have to remember to go back and change all those links as well, if any.
