Problem Enabling Style Customization a Theme

I have added the line:
/* customize_miscellaneous */ /* customize_miscellaneous */
to typography.css
When I go to the dashboard and click to customize the theme, I get the option to "Add Your CSS".
The problem is that as soon as I add and styles and save it, the "Add Your CSS" option goes away and the only way to change the customization is to Reset all the customizations.
Is this not how it is supposed to be or is the UI just not very friendly?
I guess I should mention that I am still using Version: 5.3.1.1.
