Problems with switching Designs in concrete 5.6.1.2
Permalink
I was wondering if others are having this problem. In the new version 5.6.1.2. when I try to change the "Design" - like from "Full" to "Left Sidebar" nothing happens. The page only picks up the default design. When I delete the default.php, I get an error and can't do anything. I have never had this problem with earlier versions and I am probably going to go back to 5.5.2.1 because I know that version works. I have had problems with 5.6.0.1 in the past and don't upload that for clients but I would like to keep up with the improvements. Anybody got an idea?
I have never experienced that problem in 5.6.1.2 (and just tested again). This might sound silly, but are you sure your theme(s) has the appropriate page types to switch between?
To the rescue!
Go to Dashboard > System & Settings > Cache & Speed Settings
Turn off Overrides Cache.
I don't know why that defaults to on. It's kind of annoying. Also if you're going to messing with block types and such turn off the Block Cache too!
Happy day,

You are a Prince and a Gentleman! That was it! Thanks so much for saving me on this one!
I would advice you turn the cache back on when you are done fiddling with overrides and editing the source of the blocks. The cache is there for a reason, and especially overrides cache makes a huge difference in speed.
Changing page types has no effect on either overrides cache or block cache, so why this helped you is probably because the cache gets cleared when changing the settings.
The next time you don't see your edits, just clear the cache (both sitewise and in your browser).

Yes! This! This is also important.
Yeah, I thought of that - only leaving it off for development - but thanks for reminding me! Great support here in the forum. Thanks again for the help!
