Received fatal error: Exception thrown without a stack while deleting old page versions

I run 6.6.2.1 quite happily up to now. I was busy deleting old page versions, a few at a time, from with the home page, when suddenly, I get this error:
Fatal error: Exception thrown without a stack frame in Unknown on line 0
I am not able to access any page on the site without it doing this. So no way in. Not used to PHPAdmin on Mysql, but when I try to open the dbase on the server, it comes up with error message:

I have no idea what to try next? Any suggestions?

I decided to give up on this and just restore a backed up database and its worked. But once again, deleting groups of old pages cause the same crash. In the end I restored the dbase once more and then just deleted them one by painful one and it seemed to work OK. I guess it must have been an old page that was screwed up somehow??
