Remove the 'add page' button from the edit bar

OK, so I can remove the button to the dashboard using permissions, but how do I remove the 'add page' button that's on the edit bar?
are you using advanced or simple permmisions?
I've never turned on advanced permissions; I thought it was in beta.
yea it is but it has been working fine for me you just cant disable it otherwise your permissions are all f***ed up.

you're right, once you go advanced, you /can't/ go back.
there may be some weird edge cases - but hardly experimental.
