I have upgraded an old site to v5.5 and would like to hard-code a stack where there is currently a regular editable are. The editable area contains content on hundreds of pages within the site so removing these blocks individually would be a slow arduous task.

One option would be to completely remove the editable area from the template then hard-code the new stack. This would leave orphan data in the DB but would there be any other remnants that might cause a problem or performance hit?
