Searching for umlauts and sorting by relevance

I changed the sort block controller following this instruction:

to sort by relevance. This caused a problem with search strings including german Umlauts (äöü). So I changed the controller like it's described here:

Now in the search results only one single page is shown when searching for keywords with umlauts. For other keywords everything works well. Any Ideas??
