Showing a preview of an article

I have my main page that has areas with small text areas. I want to be able to get my most recent articles and have a preview display there as plain text.
What is the best way to do this?

1. Add to main
2. Add block
3. Select 'Page List' & configure to your liking
4. Save
5. 'Preview' or 'Publish'
