Hi waroly,

Did the slowdown occur over time or did it start after some event?

On what page did you receive that error?

I was having trouble changing canonical URLs through the page properties dialog box. I read in these Forums that others having this problem were able to change the canonical URL through the pagepaths database. I tried this and it worked. I also deleted some pagepaths for long ago trashed and deleted pages that still showed up in the database that had zeros next to them. The site slowdown seems to be related to this.

This error shows up on all pages in the site.

The url is in the original post.. just check the source code..

Before messing with the database you would have created a backup right? just restore the database from your backup.
It is never a good idea to mess with the database as so many of the tables are dependent and cross referenced to each other, deleting data in one table will often impact on other table references.

I suspected as much regarding fooling with the database. It would be helpful if someone could go through the forums and delete wrong advice, but I know that can't happen. I realized I was taking a chance. Yes, I have a backup.

This brings me back to my original problem, which is why couldn't I change the canonical urls? The reason I tried changing the database was that it was the only advice in the forums that addressed this problem. If I go back to the old database backup I will be back where I started.

Another question I have is why were very old, long ago deleted pages still showing up in the database?
