Site Map and Search box

Hi all,

Still "new" to this. Found lots of other raised issues with Search in this Forum, so thought I better post my questions, in case the answer is not simple.

My site is GeminiUniversal.com

1) As I built my site, I deleted some functionality that was in place. Specifically, Guestbook on my About page was deleted, I don't need that. Why is it still showing up on the site map on my site when I try to use Search? There is also a Members listing in my Site Map when I am in the Admin side, and I am not sure why it is there or what it refers to.

2) The Search box was defaulted on my "Taurus Tips" page, so I left it there and added content around it, thinking that would be a good place to have a Search feature. Now that I am testing it, it does not seem to work. Am I correct that I read in this forum that it responds to one word only? If so, if I type in my name, I get Page Not Found. I expected it to find the About page where my name "Susan" is noted.

Can someone help me? I want my site to look as professional as possible, as it is now open for public viewing, and it's all in the details. Thanks,

Susan

Did you try reindexing the search? You can do this by navigating to your dashboard clicking "Systems and Maintenance" and clicking "Run Checked".

Hi,

Did you re-index and did it help with the guestbook?

A 'Members' page is in the site map by default, to list all your website members. No harm leaving it in, just in case you want to use it one day.

If you set the search block to 'everywhere' and don't tick 'Post to Another Page Elsewhere', your results list should show up on the same page and below your search box.

Remember also that your search words MUST be in a page of your website, I found that typing a word that was not actually in my site gave no results.

If you want search results to show on a separate page just create one called 'search Results', then in 'Main' content area of the page put your second 'search block'.

Set the second search block to 'everywhere' and don't tick 'Post to Another Page Elsewhere', your results list should show up on the same page and below your search box.

Then in your first search block set to 'everywhere' tick 'Post to Another Page Elsewhere' and put in the name of your results page, for example "search-results".

Hope that helps?

Hi again,

Thanks to both of you for answering. Yes, I just ran the Update. It did not remove the Guestbook from my sitemap though. I see the sitemap when I click on the Search function on the Taurus Tips page (in public viewing).

Also, I am not sure where to go to set the Search to "everywhere" and follow these recommendations. I looked through the different features in Edit Mode. Can you be any more specific as to how to navigate in order to set these Search functions? Again, I looked around and clicked on different aspects and maybe I am missing something....

Thanks again!

Susan

Hi,

Did you read and implement what I said about the search block?

One page to start the search and another page to show results!

Or have one search block on a page to both search and show results?

Hi 55webdesign,

Yes, thanks for checking back! The Search is now its own page in the Navigation Bar and it displays search results listed all on one page.
