Is there any way to make concrete5 sites faster? Here is one of my siteshttp://www.newcastlegigguide.com.au/... It often is pretty slow to get going when clicking on the link from Google....

Hi,
I had a quick look at your site and it was running ok. Updating to 5.6.1 should help speed things up a bit. I am not sure what Panthur are like , but I have had trouble with C5 sites being slow on some well known Australian host providers.

Thanks for the reply! I am using the latest version of c5. Could be my host or could be issues with my code....

According to the generator tag on your site, it's running 5.6.0.2, not 5.6.1.

I don't think 5.6.1 is available for automatic update at this point, but you can always do a backup and try a manual upgrade to 5.6.1.

Oh ok. I tried to update.... Looks like Ill have to do it manually. Is this easy to do or should I just wait until I can automatically do it?

Panthur told me to try Cloudflare.... Im going to give that a try too.

Thanks again :-)

I agree with the suggestion to update to 5.6.1, the speed difference is noticeable and caching is greatly improved. In particular, it's now worthwhile using file based caching in 5.6, whereas in 5.5 and earlier it often slowed things down. (So I'm talking about cases where you don't have APC or memcache available)

In terms of Panthur, I'm starting to use them myself. I haven't been with them long, but I've had some positive results.
For example, we've just gone live with this shop on Panthur;
http://contemporaryco.com.au

It doesn't appear to be the same server the newcastle site is on, but I reckon it would be the same setup.

That being said, I find that shared hosting can be a bit of a lucky dip, as different servers can have different loads, be configured differently, and they can change over time. The only way to really be sure of performance is to use a private server.

Really nice site by the way! I didn't have any speed issues myself.

Thanks for the reply! I might contact Panthur and ask if there is any way to speed things up. The site isnt running too slow but could be faster. I had a look at your site. Looks great :-)
