Slow loading time

Hi, i have recently created this website and i am suffering from really bad loading time, the website address is www.www.cardiganswimmingpool.co.uk....

I have just run a test at webpagetest.org and there are three major issues.

1) First Byte time - seems to be terrible, how can i improve this?

2)Text Compression - the score was 59/100

8.1 KB total in compressible text, target size = 4.8 KB - potential savings = 3.3 KB

FAILED - (4.8 KB, compressed = 1.5 KB - savings of 3.3 KB) -http://www.cardiganswimmingpool.co.uk/themes/Cardigan%20Swimming%20...

how do i compress the additional 3.3 KB?

3)Caching of static content - score was 0/100

FAILED - (No max-age or expires) -http://www.cardiganswimmingpool.co.uk/favicon.ico...

how do i improve this?

Please help, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
i haven't looked too deeply into your site but you need to optimize your image file sizes. The back.png file is over 2mb in size. This wouldn't help loading times. I have attached a JPEG of the back image which is now 33k.

Hope this helps a bit.

hi lwduk

thanks for that, it seems to have helped a bit according to the test i just ran. But the main problem for the slow load time appears to be the First Byte Time. Do you have any Ideas on how to improve this?

Hi, have you tried adjusting the cache settings under 'speed settings' in the dashboard. Try 'enabled' and then monitor the speed or if you do already have it enabled try 'disabling' it and monitor the speed. This can have quite a drastic change on load times.

The basic cache setting was set to enabled so i disabled it and ran the test again, but it had no effect on the loading time. The Cache settings are as followed:

basic chache = Enabled
Full page caching = Disabled
Full page cache lifetime = Default, 120 minutes

Have you tried full page caching and then clear the cache?

Regarding the other performance enhancements it is worth reading

Hope this helps.

Thanks

i'll try full page caching and the solutions in the other article and let you know how i get on.

I have enabled Full page caching and the solutions from the other thread, and the loading time has improved dramatically. 2 days ago the tests were showing a First byte time of about 39 seconds and a total load time of 50+ seconds. Its now down to a total load time of about 2.360 seconds.

Thanks so much for all your help, i've got a few other things that i need to do to help speed it up but you have helped me tremendously.
