Strange problem with Auto Nav - pulling in background behind the nav

having a little trouble here -
Im testing out the auto nav and when I insert it, based upon any preferences it puts a graphic behind it (which happens to be the top nav). how do I get rid of that and just show it on the regular background?

also in a semi related question, is this the best way to navigate through different using photo galleries
