Terribly Slow Time To First Byte
Permalink
Hi there. I am experiencing an extremely slow TTFB on my website. There is hardly anything on the site so far, and a test on Pingdom shows a 4 second wait for the first bye. After the page begins loading, it's normal. Every page hesitates with this delay.
I've contacted Dreamhost about the speed and they claim everything is good on their end.
I would be extremely grateful for anybody willing to help me sort out these issues.

By that I mean that every page I looked at had a total of no more that 2 secs except 1 which was 5 secs.
You average first GET was about 500ms.
Several possible reasons for this:
I am in the EU and I am guessing it is the middle of the night where you/the server are so traffic levels should be lower, meaning I get more server resource.
I checked to see who shares your IP and it seems to be just you, so I am assuming a VPS or dedi server, I could be wrong there but we can't say the server is overloaded.
You could look at adding Miser (do a search in the Forums) which uses lots of tricks to reduce your loads times. It's neat and really works, free for non profit, paid for a commercial sites.
Also I think there are a few more tips in the How To section that will give you extra tips on speeding things up.
Hope that helps a bit.
