trouble with "/" in site name

I have a site name that contains an "'" and it is showing up with a "/" to escape it a I am guessing, how can I strip the "/" so that it does not show in the site name?

but you should be able to define your site name and use a html encoded representation of the character you are trying to use.

I was over thinking it, I am new to php and was trying to fix it that way.
