use layout tool or hard code in template?

Hi guys again

Reading about the layout tool, which I think is pretty cool btw

link:
https://www.concrete5.org/documentation/using-concrete5-7/in-page-ed...

it says "We do not recommend you use them for site design"

what does that mean exactly?

Does it mean I should hard code most of my layout into my template(s)?

I thought the idea in the templates is to have the broad strokes of the editable regions laid out ie 3 col template, columns are editable and you fill them in using the layout tool.

Or do I have to make the layout in templates more precise than that?

As a general principle, for site design its best to name areas and code them into the theme php and css. That way they have nice meaningful names.

Layouts are best kept for the occasional special case where you need to subdivide further what you have predefined in your theme.

HI

Good advice.

I like the flexibility of the layout tool. I guess I need to strike a balance with hard code design layout that gives a solid structure but leaves room for the flexibility of using the layout tool.

Thanks

Appreciated
