User ratings per database details page

I want to get user ratings/comments on individual data records. However, the user ratings seem to be unique to a page and since a database details page is a single template, I can only get one common page of user comments for all records. It seems like I could solve my problem if I can set the user ratings to be unique to a field in my data record rather than the template page. Any ideas?
