Using 'Design' to force a font?

This element of C5 has always confused me, when right-clicking a block and selecting 'Design', using the 'CSS' tab to tweaks elements using CSS, it seems to make no difference to the block?

So for example, I have added the 'Breadcrumb' addon, using 'Design->CSS' how do I now force the font to arial? I have tried all combinations of CSS but it has no effect?
