viewable members area - permissions

I cannot seem to work out how to do this.

I would like a page to show to visitors, but when they clcik on it, it requires them to login/register.

I can get it to hide the page from guests, but that isn't what i need.

With advanced permissions, viewing can be controlled down to the block level. Maybe a page with the content hidden by permission and one of the free log-in blocks and/or the registrant block? Once registered, the content will be viewable
