Webshop with C5

Hello iam planning to start up a webshop, and iam not yet sure what system to choose from. I have found C5 and it sure looks intressting.

I wonder if C5 is a good option for a webshop? There will be payments made with cards directly on the site etc. Iam not the guy who has the tech expertise to do this site, i have a friend who will help me out.

I just want to hear as many opinions as possible before i get started with the project. Why choose C5 instead of Drupal for instance? etc

I saw at the addon section that there is a ecommerce addon. Since i will be implementing DIBS payment system, i want to make sure its possible with that plattform

Cheers
Martin

It really depends on how tech savvy your friend is. I know EXTREMELY little about web programming but I am capable of finding solutions quickly when available and pretty good at looking at code and deciphering what is actually doing. C5 is a very good platform for novices and experts alike. It is very easy to configure the basics as a novice and has a lot more you can do with it if you are an expert coder. I tried WordPress before C5 and can say C5 is a lot more user friendly.

As far as ecommerce being compatible with DIBS, I cannot say with 100% certainty that it is but am fairly confident that it would be. C5 is fairly flexible so even if it doesn't have an out of the box compatibility, there is likely a solution that either your friend can figure out or one of the code gurus here could likely guide you in the right direction. They have certainly helped me out quite a bit in my journey to create my website.

Hello ksjupe

Thanks for your reply. As for the DIBS payment how do i come in contact with someone who knows about this kind of coding? The whole webshop will be stationed in Sweden so everything will be translated to Swedish, but since iam from that country it should be no problem i guess.

Not real sure on that one. Maybe contact DIBS and see what it requires as far as setup. If you post that info here, someone should likely be able to help. Also, just by looking at the technical 10 step guide located here:http://www.dibs.dk/10_step_guide/... it appears as though they have several integration options, one of which is just a simple redirect to their payment processing pages once the customer is ready to order. This seems like it would be easy to implement with c5. However if you wanted to go with the second integration route, someone who is code savvy here would likely be able to send you down the right path.

I personally don't like working with the concrete5 eCommerce system. The core of concrete5 and many of the addons are very good, but if I were going straight to eCommerce primarily I *personally* wouldn't use concrete5 right now.

Now I'm curious -- which ecommerce would you use with a C5 site?

What parameters would influence your choice?

If you already have a site or that site is mostly something else than the concrete5 eCommerce can do it well enough. But *personally* I wouldn't use concrete5 if the main purpose(80%+) of the site was purely eCommerce and I was starting from scratch. It's ok. Just compared to a couple of free and open source ecommerce platforms out there, I don't really feel like it would be my first or second choice.

Hello mkly

We are going to build a webshop from scratch. Why wouldnt you use C5 ecommerce? Also what would be your first choice?

By "from scratch", I just meant if I already did not have a site and was going to use it purely for eCommerce.

My personal reasons is that I've been brought into situations to deal with it and I haven't enjoyed trying to extend it or style it etc. When I wanted to make it do something it didn't do out of the box, it was very difficult for me. I've also had big troubles with larger(500+ catalogs) and site performance. I have found the codebase somewhat difficult to understand and work with.

I won't list other eCommerce solutions here as it would be in bad taste.

Also, this is more my personal opinion. It's not fact. I'm just giving opinions based on my own personal experience.
