In the eCommerce add-on user settings section, there is an option called "Enable Gift Registries".
What is this used for?

Sounds like you register for a free gift when you buy an item. I suggest turning it on, and then buying something to see what it does, easiest way to know is to try it.
That's for gift registries/wishlists. It's beta functionality that was added a few months ago.
Is there any additional information regarding how this is going to work? A customer of mine is requesting a gift registry, and I was going to build out an add-on to eCommerce for this. I'd like to not have to, so if I can use what's already been done, that would be most excellent!
