Hi,
I would strongly encourage you not to skimp on your website tools. What you are paying for is TONS of development time, exceptional support, as well as ongoing features and development.
For example, I just added a comments moderation tab in the dashboard, front end blog posting, facebook like integration, and a very flexible author attribute type. I would not have done all that for free. It would simply remain "as is". But I take that money, and allocate development time to keep producing a really solid product.
I know what it cost to deve something like ProBlog, support it, and make it better.
$45 is NOT that much for what you actually get to be honest
Also, you can't really apply the "well, Wordpress is free" argument in my opinion. Using wordpress is making a blogging app barely represent a CMS. Vs, taking a ridiculously flexible CMS with scads of other content tools, and adding this completely integrated blog solution is quit different. The CMS is FREE on top of that. lol
So...to get all that for a silly $45? pretty awesome.
I would ask myself, "what do I really need in a blog app?". I don't think you will get all the essential things you want for free. It's just to much development and support time to justify in my opinion.
But then, I am biased obviously :-P

Concrete5 comes with a basic blog already built in.
There is also a free addon blog available:
http://www.concrete5.org/marketplace/addons/blogga/...
There are also some excellent paid blogging packages in the Market Place and even a way to add a WordPress blog.
Hope that helps.
