What is the multilingual url logic ?

I just finished setting up the multilingual add on ,but I don't understand :
If I go to my file list I have 2 languages ... with in english a file index.php?cID=179 and it equivalent index.php?cID=199 , so In my menu I've set up everything following that logic. Now if I visit index.php?cID=179 and from there switch language instead of taking me to the equivalent file index.php?cID=199 I get taken to index.php/inicio/about-us/ ... From there all links take me to a Not found page and I get funny url such as index.php/inicio/about-us/index.php?cID=199 ..
I'd really like to understand this I'm not getting it ... thanks in advance.
