When I add a page template, I get a completely empty page.

Hi,
I'm having a problem when I add a new page template to an existing site (5.7) and then choose that page template using the gear/Design menu, I'm getting redirected to a completely empty page. (view source and see nothing) This has happened on two different projects hosted on two different hosts.
Anybody else run into this? If so, how do you fix it?

Simple suggestion, but did you try clearing the cache?
So, I cleared the cache - no dice.
I've made a screencast video that I hope clarifies the problem. My next step is to try uninstalling and reinstalling the theme.

Uninstalling and Reinstalling the theme didn't work.
Is it a custom theme you've built?
Yes
Unless it's a common template type, then a new Page Template should map to default.php - I'm wondering if there is something that hasn't been accounted for there. PM me and we can chat about it a bit more in detail.
