Where are the user Timezone selections stored?

When editing a user, I can set their time zone. Where are the selections for this drop down menu stored?
I made a copy of my web site on my web host and the timezone options are different on the copy than the original. Specifically, all the "US/***" options are missing.
Any ideas on what's going on? Both sites are version 5.4.2.1.
