5.7.5.6 -> 5.7.5.8 update fails before download

I've verified that both the packages and updates folders have write permissions. Error message is the cryptic "An error occurred while downloading the package." Is there somewhere I can look for more detail as to what's actually happening? The error appears fairly quickly and there's nothing showing up in either folder.

It's possible that this is just timing out, I would suggest trying to download the file manually and then install it through the dashboard as outlined in the "Manual Dashboard Update" section of this article http://documentation.concrete5.org/developers/installation/upgradin...

I tried timing the process... From the point where I click on the button until the page is refreshed with the error displayed is 5 seconds. I hope that's not the timeout! :(

Not that that addresses your suggestion. I'd prefer to have an answer to what is not working instead of a work-around.

Check the PHP logs on your server and see what it says

Nothing to do with the site running Concrete in the PHP logs, though there are a lot of sess_weirdletters files. They're not readable as such with a text editor. Definitely created by Concrete, could be colon delimited data, but has some NULs...

Heh, had to delete 43,000 files or so to clear out all but this month's worth. Are they needed once the session is closed and is there a way to clear them automatically when no longer needed?
