basic concrete5 download/install

Forgive me ahead of time. I am not a computer person. I just signed up for Concrete5 to redesign my existing website, and I already have a lame question. I am hosting thru a different site. Just downloaded the Sept version of Concrete5. Since I'm not doing the insta-setup via Concrete5 and not using any of the suggested hosts, is there any thing I need to do once I download? Unzip all the files and then what? Do I need to configure with my webserver, or have I bumbled down a path and already getting lost? Just wanting to cover my bases before I unzip those files.

Firstly, I should mention that a new stable version is going to be released this coming week (in case you want to wait until then).

When I download any version of Concrete, I always extract the zip file, and use FTP to upload everything. Once you extract the file, look inside the folder and you should see a list of folders along with an index.php file. Upload all files within this directory. The "concrete/" folder contains over 3,000 items, so it will take several minutes to upload.

Also, once everything is uploaded, you will first need to have a database setup. Depending on your web host, this is pretty simple to do if you have a tool like cpanel. For the user, make sure they have full permissions.

Once a database has been set up, navigate to where your site will be located, and simply follow the install steps!

Also, this page may help:

Hope this helps.

Never used FTP. I do have cpanel. Uploaded concrete 5 file via the file manager on cpanel and extracted it in the public_html directory. Made sure it was all in write mode. Made a database (not sure why or what that does). When I try to go to the website I don't get a gray installation box. Did I miss a step somewhere? Or do I need to just replace the existing index.php file on cpanel with the concrete5 index.php file?
