Cannot exit Edit Mode 5.4.0.5

I updated from 5.3.3.x to 5.4.0.5 without a hitch but now I cannot exit Edit Mode on some pages, even new ones I've created. I hit "Exit Edit Mode" - the page goes dark gray and the Exit Edit Mode icon just has an animated ball loop spinning.. If I log out and back in, go back to the page, I see a pop-up saying "This page is pending approval"

If I "Approve" it goes out of edit mode and my changes are taken. I'm logged in as admin and have never had a page tell me I need to approve it before. Also, I can go into the site map and approve it there and it's good to go.

I have cleared and disabled cache, turned on developer mode looking for problems, no errors, nothing in my logs etc.. Anyone have an idea on this?

i found it was an error in my header code, javascript from the greybox plugin im using was interfering with code from c5. I just had to rearrange declerations in my head tag and it fixed it up. Hope this helps!
