connect to DB questions

Solved. I can't find a way to mark it solved without a response, but I learned that the problem was getting the server name right. Check, and check. Now to figure out how to build my own template.

Hello,

This is a total noob question, but I could use a little help from the community on the installation.

I've got the configuration page up, permissions set correctly, server checked out for everything. However, I keep getting an "unable to connect to database" error.

Instructions & comments on this page suggest that it could be one of 3 things, in order of ease to deal with:

1. i'm not entering the correct name for my server.
2. my host only creates MySQL databases with an underscore in them, and apparently there's a history of connection errors with non-alphanumeric characters.
3. a mod_Rewrite problem.

#1 might be because i'm installing on a domain that's an "add on" to my primary domain. or it might be because i don't have a lot of experience with database building and i'm misinterpreting what the question means. any guidance on what should be entered on the server field would be much appreciated.

#2 any hints on what to do here would be great too. is this just not going to work if i can't get a MySQL DB without an underscore in the name? i'm really excited about this product (and local! a FOAF of you guys told me about it), but i've also been with my host contentedly for many years and don't really feel like making a move.

i'll bug my host about #3 if i can eliminate #s 1 & 2.

THANK YOU!!
