Copying a site to a new location on the same server

I am trying to copy a Concrete5 website so that I can edit the theme. The website is still up and running. The site is svhsband.com, the new folder crested is colorguard.svhsband.com. I have copied all the files from the svhsband.com folder to the colorguard.svhsband.com folder, but when I type colorguard.svhsband.com into a browser, I get errors and the site does not come up. What files do I need to change in order to view the site? Is this even possible? BTW – I am new to Concrete5. I have worked with WordPress and Drupal, even built websites from the ground up (HTML, not PHP), but I cannot get a hang on this! PLEASE HELP! I am just taking over this site and am doing this for free to support my daughter's band; any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply :-) Will either of these documents work the same if the site is running C5 5.4.2.2?

I have a folder with the new C5 5.7 installed and I do not like it at all. It is much harder to work with than C5 5.4.2.2. Plus, there are no free themes, so I do not want to upgrade the current site.

Thanks for your help :-)

I'm not 100 % sure, because I haven't tried it myself. I guess it will work if you follow the 5.6 docs.

Maybe you can give it a try and feedback when you encounter any problems.

edit: Just read your last post again... Just be aware that there is no way to upgrade an existing concrete site to version 5.7!
The howto describes how to move a site from one server/folder to another. An upgrade path from 5.4 to 5.7 is not available.
