custom folder within root

Hello
I want to create a couple of C5 demo sites within the root of my site, I have rewrite rules on so when I create a folder within the root of the site called demos, then go to URLhttp://sitename/demos/cms orhttp://sitename/demos/ecommerce... instead of going to that folder I've created I get a 404 error, is there away I can route it so it goes to the two folders either within dashboard or using a Rewrite rule in the .htaccess file??

it's me been stupid, because I created the folders but didn't put anything there it threw a wobbler!
