Error on install.. a few questions.

Hey guys!
This seems like an AWESOME cms and I'm excited to get working.
Just a few questions/issues.

Where is the error log? Upon trying to install (all the tests are all green and good to go) it takes like 4 minutes, and then just goes to an error page.
The first time it went to a 500 internal server error, and then I wiped the root directory and the database, made a new one, and then it just said there's been an error and to check the error log. Where is the log?

I believe the error log that it is referring to is your web server's error log.
You should be able to access that from a control panel, or from FTP into the root of the server.
Who is the host? There might be some known issues from the host that we can give workarounds to you.

The host is iPage.com

I'll look on the control panel again for some kind of error stuff.

Edit: There's nothing on the cpanel about errors.
Also no extensionless files in the root directory involving errors.

after talking with their live support it sounds like they are having an issue with their error reporting for the past week but are in the midst of fixing it.

thanks for the help guys. I'll post when I can get a copy of that error log.

The specific error that I get.. any ideas?

title: 500 Internal Server Error

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

The domain is failheroes.com

Internal server error 500 is commonly associated with a server configuration issue. When you did your "wipe root", did you wipe the user root or the webroot(usually something like /public_html)? We really need to see what the error entry in the log is because an internal server error 500 is pretty generic.

A few things to try in the mean time. Have your web host reset your account completely(restore all user files, permissions, etc...) Then get a fresh copy of c5, and try the install again. Maybe you got a corrupted copy of the file. Good luck :)

Same error, same host. GRRRR... I'm going to try nteaviations suggestion of having them wipe my account.

I solved my problem by deleting the cgi-bin folder in the root directory and having them reset it and make it for me.

That might work for you.

Thanks, Scott.. Do you think that could be what's causing this weirdness:http://screencast.com/t/NWZjM2QwN2Q...

I had to install a previous version (5.3.3.1) because the current version wouldn't install at all.

However, as you can see from the video, I can't add pages as admin, the site logs me out when I try to edit page, etc. Ugh.

I'll try deleting the cgi directory.

Had all the above problems, wasted about 5 hours, then looked again and used simplescripts via the simplescripts website to install it, worked first time
