Godaddy hosting question and MySQL error

Hello,

First of all, I'd like to start off by saying that I'm a designer and not a developer so my knowledge in PHP is limited.

I've been trying to setup Concrete5 for the past couple of days and it's just not working. The website I'm setting up is hosted on Godaddy. I've gone though all the forums and have custom configured Concrete5 to be compatible with Godaddy. Once I reach the Concrete installation page and fill in the information, I receive the following MySQL error:

mysql error: [1115: Unknown character set: 'DB_CHARSET'] in EXECUTE("SET NAMES 'DB_CHARSET' COLLATE 'DB_COLLATE'")

Any idea what this means and how I can fix it?

Another thing... I'm not sure if others who have hosted sites on Godaddy have had this problem but when I create a new MySQL as instructed in the basic setup page (http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/installation/installing_concrete5), I can't find where to set the privileges (INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE, INDEX, DELETE, CREATE, DROP, ALTER) on that particular database. It doesn't seem to allow me to set those privileges. Is this something that doesn't need to be set with Godaddy?

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Have you tried re-downloading concrete5? Maybe you have a corrupted download.

Does GoDaddy have a control panel (I don't know anything about godaddy)? If so, look for something like phpmyadmin that you can use to configure your database.

Thanks for replying!

Godaddy does have a control panel. I've gone into phpmyadmin and have searched through all of the tabs but can't find anything.

I'm assuming that the MySQL error has to do with the fact that I haven't set the privileges.

I tried calling Godaddy's tech support and the guy had no idea what I was talking about regarding setting privileges for MySQL.

Get a fresh download of c5 and try the install again. See if you get the same error.

Did you use phpMyAdmin to create your empty database? If so, what connection collations was it set to? Mine defaults to utf8_unicode_ci. Drop the database and create a new one using utf8_unicode_ci

As for permissions, if you created the database, you should have permissions to INSERT, SELECT, etc...

My connection collations is set to utf8_unicode_ci by default as well.

Looking at other sites for help, it seems that to set privileges for MySQL databases in Godaddy, you need to type in code rather than simply checking and unchecking privileges.

I will try to re-install C5 with a fresh download.

Hmm, we need a "GoDaddy SME (subject matter expert)". :)

This may not be real helpful but godaddy is a poor host for concrete5. I'd go with the c5 team or my current favorite, Dreamhost. I built a site using concrete5 and it is hosted on godaddy and it is a pain to edit because it takes so long to communicate with the db. The pages update REAL slow.

Just did a fresh install on godaddy and went to fire it up just to get "Concrete5 requires PHP5.1." on an otherwise blank page.
