Godaddy Install & Setup

Hi! I'm beyond needing help :P I've done lots of reading here (and elsewhere) looking for posts available on this and have followed all (and any) instructions I could find. So far I do:
1)Have a Paid account w/Godaddy (and an existing site I built with Dreamweaver)that I want to replace with C5!
2)Have uploaded/unzipped latest version of C5 in my Root directory.
3)I have also (grasping at straws and reading all Help I could find) uploaded and unzipped 'ioncube'(just in case I needed it?!)
4)Created/uploaded file titled php5.ini with the following info in it: cgi.fix_pathinfo=1
5)Godaddy OS Hosting Type: Windows/4GH (should this be Linux?)
6)Godaddy PHP is 5.x
7)I have an instant trial C5 site started ivekindahadit.c5host.com and think this will be great for my shop to use to be able to update from anywhere/anytime... if I can just figure out where to go from here without losing the site I have currently have up that would be awesome!
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer... and YES... I do know I have no idea what I'm doing ;) but mostly always can make things work somehow!

I would also be interested in a GoDaddy install.
I'm updating a site for a client who already has an account with them and I am considering using conrete5. If installing concrete5 on a GoDaddy site is an issue, it would be great to know before I take the time to learn it. (This would be my first time using concrete5.)

I've used GoDaddy for several installs and client rebuilds and even use a dedicated server through them myself with some, but overall minimal, problems.
Observations:
1) Their free hosting is unusable
2) A linux based server will outperform a windows plan.
3) A dedicated server will always outperform the cheaper shared hosting... but do ALL upgrades to server Before installing your sites ( Don't trust your new dedicated server lease to have the most current upgrades already installed.... ain't happening )
4) C5 requires a Mysql database. GoDaddy accounts are normally hosted on a shared server... and your database is likely to stored on a totally different one! This separation usually slows down the performance of your site.
5) In case of extremely poor performance (due database being on a slow or heavily used server) I believe you can request your DB be moved to a different server. This is, however, a "crap-shoot" on getting faster speeds but is still an option that can be repeated until you get reasonable response.
6) Customer service is generally very helpful... when you finally get through the insanely long wait time :(

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure not a unique situation but I'm the only one on staff that has any idea how to look after this stuff... and you can see that's not much ;) I wanted to hang on to GoDaddy just because my employer isn't fond of learning curves like dealing with new online joint calendars and new email...
I have other hosting set up with webhostinghub.com and will try to see if I can get C5 sorted out there.

Go into the GoDaddy account settings and switch to Linux. Never use the windows server unless you really need too.
After switching to Linux, install concrete5 (of course after making sure your php5.ini file is at the root) and you shouldn't have any issues.
If you want to look at a very cost effective alternative for linux/concrete5 optimized hosting, look at thinkwebmedia.com. Defunct (concrete5 member) helps with that hosting service and has optimized it to run C5. Very stable and fast.

:| Well, I successfully switched over to Linux ... and my original website is gone (I have it saved on my my computer of course :)
and hey... now at least I can see that C5 is showing some signs where I'd like my site to be...

Sounds as though your permissions settings are a little off.
Make sure you follow the directions on which files are correctly set on the server.
This will take a few minutes but I would recommend deleting all the files, ensuring your database is created and that you have all the required info for the install screen of C5. FTP all the files for C5 back onto the server. After that, it should install with no problem.
Put your php5.ini file at the root (where your index.php file lives).

I actually did do a reinstall of C5 last night and managed to at least get some content on my main page letting our customers know 'I'm working on it'!
I'll try to reset permissions in the appropriate folders on the reinstall and if that doesn't get me there I'll start from scratch.

Peter recommends a Linux setup in that how to.
Best thing you could do really is to ditch GoDaddy hosting and go for something better (A2Hosting and Hostpapa have been good to me). You'll have less problems, headaches, and a faster site in the long run. The Concrete5.org hosting is also always an option.
