Godaddy sucks!

Godaddy moved me to a new server last week and things started breaking with my concrete5 sites. Couldn't get to links underneath cvtg.org because "Input file not specified," etc. I tried many different hacks to php.ini and htaccess files as found on this site, no luck.

Their servers are supposed to run php 5.3 or 5.4, selectable through the godaddy web site hosting configuration panel. Tried both of those, no luck. Suddenly yesterday their server reports that their php is at 5.2 . (I created a file called cvtg.org/info.php which says:
<?php phpinfo() ?>
People on the tech support phone line or chat insist that it's my fault. They are clueless and rude. I got escalated to an official "Incident" once last week, some admin screwed with some settings, sent me an email that everything worked (when it didn't), closed the ticket, can't reply back to him. I've wasted far too much time on this.

Time to demand a refund of the hosting money I prepaid for the next few years.

Yes, they do suck. To the point that I refuse to work on websites hosted on their servers.

Frankly, if they're still at PHP 5.4 they should be ashamed of themselves.

I'd be interested to hear from you how the refund request went. They are not known for their ethical business practices.

I just got my refund of the 2-years hosting payment I made a few weeks ago.

I told the sales guy I got tired of dealing with their support people for over a week after they moved me to a new broken server. He said that's not something they do, I've been on the same old server for years (just like the last support person insisted) when I have a f**king piece of email from them telling me they did and had given me a new IP for ssh, and I could see on my screen that my concrete5 sites failed because their PHP had dropped backwards to 5.2 among other reasons. Luckily the sales guy didn't want to argue the point and just gave me the refund, noting that it would cost me quite a bit extra if I decided to host with them again since I wouldn't be considered a repeat customer any more. Fat chance! I was hosting web sites for a community theater and choir out of my own generosity, they can fend for themselves now. (I still have domains registered through godaddy and redirected the web sites to their facebook pages for now.) The files I had under my personal web page can just go in a google drive.

Anyone want to recommend a good replacement hosting company? The nonprofits don't need blazing speeds or bandwidth, and probably only 1 gig of file space.

@tallacman are you happy with inmotion? I recommended it to a client 3 years ago and for the first year, she was very happy. She was on a VPN plan. And then it started going down in quality. PHP on their server would actually crash because of small errors in the code. We would have to restart the server and it happened maybe 20 times in a year. Support was totally unhelpful. Very polite and all but they had no idea what they were talking about, giving me answers from their script. Kept saying they couldn't see a problem.

After a year we grew tired of that and moved on to WiredTree. I was absolutely in love with them, hardware and support.

They were recently acquired by LiquidWeb which seem pretty good but I'm waiting to see more. I think this website here is hosted with LiquidWeb

I would have to warn against InMotion, due to the fact they have had 3 major outages within the past year, due to their west coast data servers failing from power outages.

The 2nd time it happened, several of my database driven sites were down for a WHOLE WEEK before they were able to restore them.

qth.com - we've been pretty happy with them over the years. Scott is easy to get in contact and work with.

rimuhosting.com is really good, I now host with OVH only because I moved into dedicated servers. But rimuhosting is really good for VPS as their customer support could teach you anything!

My employer doesn't let that site through its firewall. I have found some affordable responsible alternatives right in my town or nearby (qth.com, surehosting.net, etc.)

I personally usehttp://www.exchangecore.com/

Its run by 2 guys who actually contribute to the core of concrete5, so they actually know what they are talking about :)
