GoDaddy Hosting - Limitations/Recommendations
Permalink
I'm planning to try an install on a GoDaddy shared hosting plan. I have two concerns.
GoDaddy limits your MySQL database to 200MB. Any idea how big a site I have to have to outgrow this? Does Concrete5 keep a lot of logs that consume storage space? Also, concerning database size this post caught my attention:http://www.concrete5.org/community/forums/customizing_c5/database_g...
My second concern is speed. I currently develop in ASP Classic using MS Access databases (no rude comments please :) ) and the speeds of my sites are incredibly fast unless I grow the database to 40MB+ and start doing lots of complicated SQL statements. I'm hoping that I don't lose too much speed by using Concrete5 and I'm wondering if the speed of the web hosts' database connections should be a concern to me?
Thanks
Harlan

Thanks for the reply.
A friend of mine has confirmed that GoDaddy's database speeds are marginal if not completely unacceptable due to them running the databases on different servers than the hosting. I'm currently checking out HostMonster but I will also consider using Concrete5's hosting.
Thanks

I'm curious where you landed with shared hosting? hostmonster? mediatemple? another? are you experiencing decent speeds?
I reached somewhat of a conclusion that Windows Hosting wasn't going to work and I didn't look any further than that. I went with HostMonster and I've been very impressed.
One of the best things about HostMonster is their tech support. I had an issue with one of my Concrete5 sites and they helped me figure it out in spite of the fact that they wouldn't have needed to since it's not part of their hosting or support agreement. As for the speed, I have a pretty basic site hosted at HostMonster so you can visit it if you like to see how their speed is:http://www.aquaterrallc.com

I have been an advocate of 1and1 services myself, but in looking for better service over the last few days you may want to review what Media Temple has to offer in their grid hosting.http://mediatemple.net, $20 a month.
Concrete5 itself also offers hosting services for 15$ per month that will be optimized to work with concrete, along with managed core software updates.
