How can I uninstall 5.7

I am sorry to be asking this but what is the easiest way to uninstall c5 ver 5.7.3.

I'm at a beginner level though I have two web sites that I am very happy with in 5.6.3. I can pretty much do everything I need there.

5.7.3 installed without a hitch and the elements theme seemed fine except for a few things I wanted to do but seemed that the theme was a little too basic. So, I purchased and installed another theme. I'm finding it very difficult to do basic things such as change the text and background color of the nav bar.

It seems like the changes I'm making are in the right place but nothing happens. I've cleared the cache but still the changes don't seem to take.

I'm in a severe time crunch and don't have the time right now to mess with this when I know I can get this 3rd site I'm working on up really fast. So, I've decided to go back to 5.6.3 and convert to 5.7 later when I have more time.

But, I've never done anything like this and I don't want to mess up the other 5.6.3 sites I have.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can't "downgrade"... You have to uninstall and remove everything and install 5.6.x from scratch. Probably can't use the theme as well as 5.7 is a complete rewrite (although using a theme would only need some minor changes, depends on the theme).

Hi ramonleenders,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I realize I can't downgrade and would have to uninstall 5.7.

What I want to know is how can I do that without messing with any of the other sites. Also, I didn't see an "uninstall" type of option so I presume I need to go through my cpanel and remove the folder for the domain. But, don't know if that is a dumb way of doing it and if it would leave parts of 5.7 around somewhere.

I'm okay with not using the theme for 5.7. I'm thinking I would go back to 5.6.3 completely for now.

So, is deleting the folder with my domain name through CPanel the way to uninstall?

Thanks!
Steve

Where are you making changes to your theme? There's some cache settings specifically about caching CSS/LESS files. Which theme are you editing?

This seems like a pretty easy hurdle to get over and if you can do that, you'll likely want to stay with 5.7

Thanks for your reply MichaelG,

I started with the included Elemental theme. I installed it with sample data and was able to make the changes to the nav bar etc okay though I was still just scratching the surface.

Then I wanted more functionality so purchased the Fundamental Theme. I wasn't able to change the Nav bar colors beyond what the developer built in. From reviews and comments I realized that I couldn't make custom color changes without using code and that's beyond me.

So, I went back to the Elemental theme but now I couldn't make any of the changes I wanted to. And, this is just superficial changes so my having problems at this stage has me thinking, "what am I in for?". Thus my thinking of going back to 5.6.3.

I did not make any cache setting changes thinking if I just cleared the cache and my changes displayed, then I'd look into that. So, those settings are the default.

So, I'm currently in the Elemental Theme. I tried to change the background and text color of the Nav bar. I tried this by going into page edit mode by clicking on the Pencil Icon, then clicked on the Nav Bar block, then on Edit Design. A tool bar pops up and I clicked on Text Size and Color. I picked a color, clicked on Choose, then on Save in the tool bar. I basically, repeated this for the Background without success.

Dang, wouldn't you know...as I go through these steps (for the 12th time) so I can explain what I did, the background color changed. The text color is still unchanged though.

FYI, I also tried to do this by clicking on the Gear Icon (instead of the Pencil) and then clicking on Customize Theme. Then I clicked on the nav Text icon and picked a color and then on Choose. Tried the same for the Nav Menu Text and also no change. And tried the Nav Menu Background and no change.

I did click on Save and apply to this page.

I think my skills are probably too little to be using 5.7 just yet.

Thanks,
Steve

okay, I said the background color changed and it is changed while I'm in edit mode. But when I exit and publish, the color goes back to no color.

ugh.

Try refreshing your page. Sometimes browsers cache the stylesheets aggressively.

Thank you for the suggestion. I didn't think of doing that but I tried it and nothing.

To all of you who have taken the time to offer suggestions I thank you so very much. However, I have just worked with bluehost (my ISP) and they walked me through the "uninstall" of my site and the c5 5.7.3 installation.

It's back to the "old days" of 5.6.3 for me for now. I will definitely be back and hopefully, my skills will be better able to deal with this by then.

For any other sad sacks like me out there, what my ISP had me do was get into Files of CPanel, then go to the folder with my domain name and delete the folder. That takes care of the web site and the c5 installation. Then go to the databases in cpanel and look for the sql database with the name I used for my domain and click the Delete button for that. And that was it...I hope. Haven't checked yet to make sure everything (my other 5.6.3 sites) etc are still okay.

Aloha!
