Visit the address of the virtual server.

If everything is set up ready to go it will show the install wizard screens.

You will need to have a blank database created as well, and a database login with access to that blank database. The concrete5 install won't create a new database for you, you just need to put those details in.

yes I have created the MySQL Database and username. Sorry forgot to mention that.

If I try and put the web address (URL) into the browser (using Chrome at the moment) I get nothing.

I had thought that I could try opening the C5 installation file in my browser but don't know which file to choose (right click and choose open with browser program)

Any ideas?

Further to my last email.

I opened my virtual server via my network drive and went into the "www.mywebsite.org" folder.
I then opened up the Application Folder and can see the index.html ffile is 0KB and is empty so I just get a blank screen?

Which file am I supposed to run to install C5's automatic process?

A web application like concrete5 doesn't run by directly accessing the files.
What you need to do is via a web browser access the address where you'd normally view the site from. So it's going to be some IP address or a domain name (or some sort of temporary domain/address) that points at the web server.

In other words, just say concrete5 is already installed and set up, what address would you type in your browser to view it?

Thank you so much for that explanation. I am trying to sort it out now. I left it for 24 hours so that any changes I made might of had time to propagate but I still get a blank screen when putting in my normal URL for the site.

Basically I unzipped the latest version of C5 into the public_html folder having created a new folder within it called wwwdotnewsiteURLdotorg.

after I unzipped the C5 files they were in this double folder: Concrete5.7.5.8/Concrete5.7.5.8
So I moved all the files within it into the root/wwwdotnewsiteURLdotorg (as shown in the attached image) however when I type the URL into my browser I get nothing!?

If by 'root', you are meaning 'web root', that's the location you need to have your files.
Your wwwdotnewsiteURLdotorg folder would only be needed if you've actually configured the webserver to server the site from that folder. (perhaps you have)

What I'd do is create a simple index.html file with some text in it, 'Test' or whatever and move that around a few different folders, and accessing the site's URL to see if I can get to that file.
If I can't, the server is likely to be misconfigured.

that was very helpful. I have been scratching my head about this as if I search for google for the new domain I do not get any hits or suggestions at all . I have gone onto my host and it appears that the DNS has reset to defaul during a server update on Monday evening!

I have now reset the DNS to the correct server location and will have to wait until the URL's propagate around the internet!

Did u try to navigate to the /index.php, might be a server set-up thing that it doesn't redirect to the .php index file.

I did create an index file as suggested by mesuva and even though I could see it in cPanel couldn't get to it via a browser. It now appears that it is a DNS issue from my host as a server update reset DNS to default. I have now reset it to my virtual servers address. must wait for it to refresh now!

I am still waiting for the DNS servers to propagate around the globe. At the moment the page still comes up blank but with a DNS not found error now. This was corrected early this morning and another site in my clutch was also affected - that came up quickly but not this one yet!

HELP still required.

Please will someone with experience of installing C5 on a Virtual Private server help me I am pulling my hair out.

This is where I am at:

I downloaded the latest zipped version of C5 (5.7.5.8) to my server.

I created a new folder for the new site (www dot newsitename dot co dot uk) and unzipped the C5 file in there.

This unzipped all the folders and files in a newly created folder(s): concrete5.7.5.8/concrete5.7.5.8
which to me was a double instance of it. I tried opening my browser and putting in the new URL but alas all I get is a blank screen.
I then moved all the files and folders out of the double concrete5.7.5.8 folders and tried again - not a wink!
I then tried having them in just one c5 folder but again nada.

I then wrote on here and had some great suggestions.

I have tried everything but again nada.

I HAVE check my DNS settings and they are correct I have also tried pinging the URL and I get a great response so I know it it there and working!?

I have also created a index.html basic file and put this in the root of the new URL but also get no response? What am I doing wrong> I have never had this before?

Please help. Before I go bald...

If you can't get your own index.html to load, this isn't a concrete5 problem (in the first instance). It sounds like your virtual server isn't configured correctly, or your entering the wrong URL, or something. You'll probably get much more help from a forum dedicated to whatever virtual server you're using.
