How do you install

I followed the installation in the download, everything is writable.

I downloaded the files and created a site on my mac.

when I go to the URL I get "Error establishing a database connection"

How will it even know which database to connect to?

Im on mac osx.

oh, I don't want mamp. My mac already has mysql and php.

All I do is setup the host name in host file and setup the vhost for php. Should that be enough?

thanks Adreco but thats what I followed.

everything is writable.

I go to the site I created which is concrete5.dev and I get the databse error. I never get to see any screen or enter any database credential.

Have you checked the site.php file in your config folder has all the correct information? Or is this all pre set up stuff?

Edit, sorry I just realised that you prob mean that you are trying a first time install. Check your db user details and password are correct and that you have localhost for your db location.

Yes this is a fresh install.

I can't get even get the first screen to show up so I never get asked about which is my database.

Whats weird is I don't see a site.php file anywhere. I assume this gets added after the install.

Where can I go to manually add my database information. Maybe that will help?

on my machine mysql user is 'root' I think that may be the issue. Where can I add this if I can't even see the first install screen?
