I'm gonna go crazy!!!!!!!!!

Ok so I have had some problems when I upgraded to 5.3.1 from 5.3.0. I tried to fix it but it just wasn't working so I deleted everything and did a clean install. However, now when I try to re-install, I get the error that says unable to connect to database. I have tried everything from creating a new database to adding a new user!! Is there something I did wrong or is my hosting site messed up? Help!!
Well part of the problem is I'm a kind of new to all of this and don't really know exactly what I am doing. I am self taught through forums and other things so for all I know it is something really dumb that I am missing. What do you mean by a link to phpinfo? Let me know what it is and I'll be glad to do it. This is my church's website and we are hosting through web.com. I don't like it, but it was what they had when I got a hold of the website. Yes I access it by signing in at web.com and then there is a place to mess with the mysql. The weird thing is that it was working fine before I upgraded, but now it just plain does not work. Any more help or suggestions you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated!
that's cool, we all gotta start somewhere! By no means am I and expert either so I understand where you are at!
Hmm well if it was working before then we really don't need to do the phpinfo thing, as you obviously have what you need to install it.
And are you 100% sure you have the correct DB details?

I think so but I am not sure. I have been trying as many combinations of different things as possible. I really should have written down what all I had put in when I first installed it. When I did my first install, there was an awesome tutorial that I had found somewhere that gave very specific step by step instructions about it that I followed exactly and it worked, first try. But of course I cant find it now but I guess that is how it goes. I think one thing that would help is knowing what the things they are looking for, such as server and db name, look like.
The server and DB name details will be available from the host. Shouldn't be too hard to get a hold of. They will be specific to you (or your user's) hosting account.
The server name could be localhost, but it would be too hard to suggest as every web host is different.
As far as tutorials go there are a bunch over in the Help sectionhttp://www.concrete5.org/help/building_with_concrete5/installation/... that might help you out.

Well thanks for all the help. I'm gonna have to put it down for tonight. Like I said, I'm about to go crazy. I have also put in a support ticket with my host to see if something is wrong with them. I hope I don't have to wind up getting C5 to install it for me.......
Hopefully it will be something simple. maybe some time away from it will help, get some perspective on it etc...
If you need a hand with anything i'm more than happy to help where i can.

Might be worth putting a link to phpinfo if possible. This will help to check the server config.
Just a really basic question, have you confirmed all your DB details? (i know, i know, just gotta ask these things!)
Are you hosting it yourself or having it hosted? If the latter, is there anything funky with the DB itself? Can you access via a control panel or something like that?
Have you tried downloading a fresh copy of Concrete5 and trying that? Maybe something is off with your current set of files?
