If anybody needs help: Just did manual 5.7.2 install on Bitnami Ubuntu 14.04 LAMP Stack
Permalink
Long ago I created my 5.6 Dev environment on a Ubuntu 12 LTS box (VMWare ESXi server) using Bitnami packages. I now have two production sites hosted on 5.6 (one on Bitrock, one on Inmotion). Last week I began work on a new 5.7 site (Inmotion) so I needed to create a 5.7 development environment as well.
For those not familiar with Bitnami, they provide pre-built packages for things like LAMP servers, Concrete5 5.6 server, Drupal, Joomla, etc. etc. Bitnami makes it so even a caveman can build a web server.
Bitnami has not yet rolled out a Concrete5 5.7 package, so I installed mine manually. I thought it would be a piece of cake, but it was not. Yes it would be easier with cPanel, but do not use cPanel at home and figured it would be a better learning opportunity to try it manually. My environment is VMWare ESXi 4.1.0 (free license).
Some of the fun involved getting Phpmyadmin and SSH server working, getting the database sorted out, then figuring out the nuances of the structure Bitnami uses on their LAMP server. I got it all running. The tricky part was just figuring out how to make Apache work properly (virtual server settings), sorting out permissions, etc.
Ubuntu 14.04
PHP 5.4.34
phpMyAdmin 4.2.9.1
phpMyAdmin 4.2.9.1
MySQL 5.5.40
