Images not visible
Permalink 1 user found helpful
Hi all,
I'm new to the web site building lark. I've managed to load & install concrete5 to my hosting server (123reg) but every image - default & ones I upload myself do not appear on my site.
In file manger you can see that the image is there, showing it's size, time added etc. but the thumbnail is not visible - shows a red X.
I've re-installed the site twice now, using different verstions of concrete5 as well as clearing the cache etc. I've trie .gif & .jpg images - the same happens with them all.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks.

Just a shot in the dark, but I wonder if it could be a permissions issue (at the directory level - not C5 permissions). See here...

all the permissions are 777,
the files are uploaded, I can see them on my ftp programme, but none are visible with concrete.

ok
I think i have found the bug
files/5712/8648/8348/header_bg2.jpg
each of these folders I had to change to 777.
but thats going to make it pretty inconvenient if you have to manual y do that each time you load a picture?
oh and this is also true for any themes Im trying to load, there images are not working.
File manager for loading pics is also not picking up the images, even the one picture I did get to work.

You should be able to set permissions on the "files" directory and propagate them to all directories and files underneath. I'm not proficient enough with Unix to tell you the exact command, but I know it can be done. I can do it through the GUI of my IDE.

Click the file in the File Manager, choose Properties, and then click the "Rescan" button. Alternatively, check the checkbox next to the thumbnail and choose "Rescan" from the drop-down menu at the top of the column.
Don't know if that will help, but it's worth a try.

The rescan or setting file/directory permissions?
Since setting permissions for that one file worked, it indicates that setting permissions for the entire "files" directory might work. You might be able to do that with your FTP program.

I was able to set the permissions on /files via filezilla & choose the option to recurse into subdirectories & files - I can now see the thumbnail images in C5 file manager. I've tried to re-add an image on the site, but still shows as a red X on there?!
Aha - appears to work with .gif images but not jpegs... anyone possibly know why?
Also - is a pain every time I upload another image, I have to set the file permissions again. It's not too bad for me to do on the initial site build.
But - the site is for my local Scout group & the idea is they're going to have photo galleries on it that leaders will have access to add / remove photos as they wish - I hope this isn't going to affect that... as it looks like I'll be getting a call to do my bit with filezilla on the permissions evertim pictures are uploaded!
