Initial installation of concrete5: CHMOD 777 - problem on my WebHosting
Permalink
Hi,
My Web Hosting told me that for them it isn't anymore acceptable to have files or directories with CHMOD 777; it has to be CHMOD 755.
So I checked all the files with Filezilla and some questions come up through my mind that I don't have the qualifications to answer. It would be greatly appreciated that some of you can enlight me.
Here what I saw after a fresh and recent installation (c5.4.1.1) on linux server:
CHMOD 777 (directories and files)
/files/3712/.../inneroptics_dot_net_aspens.jpg
/files/7012/.../inneroptics_dot_net_starfish.jpg
/files/7112/.../inneroptics_dot_net_portland.jpg
/files/8512/.../ (empty dir.)
/files/9112/.../inneroptics_dot_net_canyonlands.jpg
/files/thumbnails/3712/...
/files/thumbnails/7012/...
/files/thumbnails/7112/...
/files/thumbnails/8512/...
/files/thumbnails/9112/...
/files/thumbnails/level2/...
/files/thumbnails/level3/...
MY QUESTIONS:
- Are these sub-directories and files to CHMOD777 because I set during the installation the /files directory to CHMOD777 ? (I hope so)
- Some thumbnails were created after I changed the /files directory to CHMOD755; why some sub-directories inside the /files/thumbnails directory have been created with CHMOD777 and not CHMOD755 ? Is there some codes somewhere in concrete5 that preset to CHMOD777 anyway anyhow ? I hope that it isn't the case :(
- What should I do that will assure me that there will never be again any CHMOD 777, neither during updates, neither when I install new plugins/templates... ? Because as my Webhosting told me, for now it will stop automatically the website to work totally!
Sorry in advance for my stupid questions. I really need your help on this matter folks. My Webhosting (WHC.ca - one of the biggest and best in Canada) is getting really interested on concrete5 and I really think that in general it need to work smootly and right, so they will suggest to most of their customers to use it.
Thanks greatly!
