Installed Concrete5, now what!?

Okay guys, I am pretty tech-savvy, but not when it comes to website editing.

My site is hosted by iPower.com, and they have a simple script "app" (I don't know the right word) that allows you to install Concrete5 easily.

It is a website for a school organization, and the person before me used MS Expressions to set the website up, so there is already pages and other content.

So I install C5 and I click the admin login button, and log in successfully, but there is no editing toolbar or anything, I just see the same exact website as someone who hasn't logged in. PLEASE HELP I'M LOSING MY MIND

Hi easternama,

C5 is best for creating a new site... not designed as an editing application for existing sites.
You may want to re-create your existing site from the old one (copy-paste - add new content etc)

Also, if my memory serves me right, I believe someone has posted a "How-To" in this site's "Documentation area"on using C5 over an existing site for adding new content. It might be worth taking a look at ( http://www.concrete5.org/documentation/how-tos/designers/install-co... )

Concrete5 is not installed at this web address. Where are you logging in to your new Concrete5 installation?
easternama replied on at Permalink Reply
through my iPower.com account, which is the domain host

After logging in, when you return to the demo website created on installation, isn't there a top bar with a "edit" button to edit the content of the page you're viewing? Like in this video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJrFBDLqm7A...

the demo website created on installation? i don't know what you are referring to

When you install concrete5, usually you get a demo website created for you so you have a starting point to customize it (unless you select a blank website during installation).

Which automatic installer did you use? softaculous? anyway, please share with us the URL where the concrete5 website was installed.

You don't login to your concrete5 website through your web host account. You do that directly though the web interface of the c5 website.

That is just the URL of the website that is already made. You need the URL where the NEW concrete5 site was installed. You must pay attention the "simple scripts" information. It should tell you where it was installed, and it should have asked you about the admin login information.

I'm guessing you need to visit your NEW concrete5 website in something like:

http://www.easternama.com/c5_installation_directory/...

As someone said before, c5 is not to edit existing websites. It seems like you're expecting to see the c5 top bar on your existing website.

edit: wow, "wayboat" found the URL of your website. Seems like a mess. You seem to have installed a new concrete5 website on the same directory as your existing website!

I think the script has loaded concrete to the same root as the existing html website, if he builds his new concrete site and then deletes the index.html (or rename) the browsers should then find the concrete index.php and load the concrete pages..

Yes. In that case, I think it's a good idea to have a new copy of c5 installed in a different directory this time. And just discard the one that got installed in the "root".

is there anyway to completely remove what i have and start fresh?
easternama replied on at Permalink Reply
so uninstall concrete 5, then install it in a different URL?

To remove the concrete installation your best action would to be to download concrete to your PC and unzip it,
You will be able to identify the files and folders that you need to remove from your server,
login via ftp to your server and firstly RENAME the folders and root files that you are planning to delete, for instance rename "concrete" folder to "concreteold" and "index.php" to "indexold.php",
When you have renamed all the folders and root files check your html website to make sure it is not broken,
If all is well then you can delete the renamed folders and files,

To install concrete just create a folder called c5 in your root and install concrete to that folder...

I went tohttp://www.easternama.com and the site looks fine to me. What problem are you having? If you are trying to install concrete5 so you can build a new website then you need to take down your old site. If you are trying to install Concrete5 to use as a website editor...then that definitely won't work. It's a content managment system not a website editing tool.

If you are in need of help, I am sure there are many on here that can help. If you are looking to hire someone to fix the issue and get your account back to normal, feel free to send me a message.

Thanks
