Installed fine, can't get to dashboard

Hi all,

I have been using C5 for a while now and love it however I have hit an issue in process I have done 20 times before.

I am installing C5 within a sub-domain directory, installation goes smoothly, C5 tells me it is complete, I have the admin nav bar on top of the default page however when I click "dashboard" I just keep getting "page not found".

My config/site.php file appears to be correct (BASE_URL has correct address and DIR_REL appears empty).

The dashboard link points to index.php/dashboard/ if that tells you anything.

I am stumped, I have downloaded a fresh copy and made no modifications to the source whatsoever, I have no idea what I have done differently.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar issue but only periodically... sometimes it works... sometimes it doesn't and sometimes just a refresh when I see page not found does the trick!!...

Like you I would be interested to know if anyone else has had this happen and if there is a solution.

I have several sub-domains (where the problem was first noticed) however I also have two addon domains within my hosting service as well and tried installing within subdomains on those as well, same thing. Even a page refresh as suggested above doesn't work.

I have very little experience in regards to setting up and playing with servers however is it possible there could be some kind of a cache issue?

I am going to contact my hosting company for support as the error is happening on every fresh installation of C5 I attempt which I believe rules out C5 and more than likely a hosting issue.

I will keep you posted.

---UPDATE---

I just got off the phone with the hosting company and they have no idea either.

I have tried installing in the root directory of my addon domain and it still fails so it's not just a problem with subdomains as I first thought. Currently the only working installation is in my public_html directory (www.nextcode.com.au)

I have used installations on subdomains and addon domains for the past 5 months with ease, this is a very recent problem.

Any hints??? :-)

---UPDATE 2---

Thinking this may be a webserver cache issue, I tried installing on a sub-domain I created on a clients completely separate hosting account (same company though) and got the exact same problem.

Still no closer to a solution.

Ok, for anyone that is getting the same issue, once installed, check the permissions associated to root/config/site.php, my installation automatically assigned permission level 777 which my host will not allow.

Once installed, just change that permission to 755 and it works a treat. I'm surprised this is the first time I've had the problem but anywho.

--- UPDATE----

Forget all that, still having problems.

Hi all, I'm getting a little frustrated with this as it is occurring on every install I attempt.

Up until recently I would just get a "page not found" redirect when I click on the "Dashboard" button however I was able to get to the dashboard once this morning (not anymore) and now I've got through to the dashboard however it is just straight text down the page followed by the following error message...

An unexpected error occurred.
mysql error: [2006: MySQL server has gone away] in EXECUTE("select Collections.cID, Pages.cID as pcID from Collections left join Pages on Collections.cID = Pages.cID where Collections.cHandle = 'uID=1'")

Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'ADODB_Exception' with message 'mysql error: [2006: MySQL server has gone away] in EXECUTE("insert into Logs (logType, logText, logIsInternal) values ('exceptions', 'Exception Occurred: mysql error: [2006: MySQL server has gone away] in EXECUTE("select Collections.cID, Pages.cID as pcID from Collections left join Pages on Collections.cID = Pages.cID where Collections.cHandle = \'uID=1\'")\n\n#0 /home/nex48874/public_html/clients/rsadevtest/concrete/libraries/3rdparty/adodb/adodb.inc.php(1042): adodb_throw(\'mysql\', \'EXECUTE\', 2006, \'MySQL server ha...\', \'select Collecti...\', false, Object(ADODB_mysql))\n#1 /home/nex48874/public_html/clients/rsadevtest/concrete/libraries/3rdparty/adodb/adodb.inc.php(998): ADOConnection->_Execute(\'select Collecti...\')\n#2 /home/nex48874/public_html/clients/rsadevtest/concrete/libraries/3rdparty/adodb/adodb.inc.php(766): ADOConnection->Execute(\'select Collecti...\', Array)\n#3 /home/nex48874/public_html/clients/rsadevtest/concrete/lib in /home/nex48874/public_html/clients/rsadevtest/concrete/libraries/3rdparty/adodb/adodb-exceptions.inc.php on line 78

I can't make any sense of this and was hoping someone might be able to assist. It is odd that I have been able to get the dashboard content twice (out of a 100 or so attempts) which suggests to me it is not missing content as I would never get there if it was in fact missing.

Any help would be hugely appreciated. At this point I am even prepared to pay!!!

Hi all,

I'm still getting no where with this issue and hoping someone could take a look at this and provide some pointers.

Judging by the error message above I am guessing it is something to do with the SQL database setup and considering this is a fresh download of C5 and no modifications at all made, I am guessing it is something to do with the way the hosting company accesses the DB.

Just a guess from someone with very little experience with DB's.

Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, to make things more confusing, I just tried installing on another hosting companies system and the install went perfectly fine, I can get in to admin and handle everything with ease.

It now appears to me that it is something to do with my hosting company (installed a patch, updated configuration or some such change).

I always knew it wasn't C5 as I have been using it successfully for the last 5 months. I will keep updating this once the hosting company gets back to me with a solution (hopefully).

Not sure if you have seen this: -http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/gone-away.html...

It runs through some possible causes/solutions which might be helpful. You might not be able to make any of the suggested changes, but it gives you a decent background on what might be causing the issue.

Ok, my host has come back to me saying that the query has to be optimised as the query is timing out and the SQL database is shutting down before the query can be completed (I apologise if I got the lingo wrong, I'm very new to DB's and server issues).

I am waiting on the full detailed response and will post here once I receive it but was hoping someone may be able to decipher my dribble first. :-)

Still no luck in getting access to the dashboard.

the queries are defiantly not the problem, i think its their sql server or apache especially since everyone one else is fine, what (crappy) host are you using?

That was my thinking, as I said earlier I have been using this with great success for the last 6 months or so until recently.

They did indicate that there were some changes made to the servers which I am almost certain is causing this. I guess I was just looking for confirmation from the forum goers here.

The company is WebCity, an Australian based hosting company... STAY AWAY FROM THEM AT ALL COSTS!!! :-)
